Many of the residents at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center gathered in the Emerald Grande Room to share a meal together on August 25th, 2023. They read on their weekly Activity Newsletter a special Activity was going to be held in the Grande Room after lunch. The sound of “chatter” and laughter flooded down the Emerald Wing as the Grande Room continued to be filled with happy residents and staff. To everyone’s surprise, there were 3 staff members dressed up as Tacos, which put a smile on their faces.
After the delicious Taco meal, which included a Churro for dessert, the residents were served a festive drink. The 3 human Tacos brought out their special handmade Taco Piñata which was filled with surprises. The Taco Piñata was hung at the top of the doorway and as the residents were exiting the Grande Room, they were instructed to pull down on just one of the many ribbons fastened to the Piñata. There was much anticipation and hope among the residents, as they exited the room, before one lucky resident pulled the one special ribbon which opened a small hidden door on the bottom of the Piñata. What a surprise to have so many treasures rain down and land on the floor below you. There was laughter and cheers, especially for the resident who pulled the lucky ribbon, as staff members helped scoop up the numerous small gifts, which were plentiful enough so that every resident received one. What a wonderful afternoon!
