Happy Easter

With Easter in a few days, we wanted to take a moment and say to everyone have a safe and happy holiday from everyone at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  We will try to have some great pictures from our Easter events next week be sure to keep an eye out for them.

  • Happy Easter Everyone.

Bingo is Back

Activities have started back up in individual wing dining rooms throughout the week following CDC guidelines. We kicked off with our resident’s favorite activity of B-I-N-G-O. Here are some pictures of our first bingo after our group activities were shut down. As you can see, they were very happy to start it back up even with the adaptions we had to make.

Each week we will be holding a different activity and carry that activity throughout the week on each wing.  This week we have been doing Wheel of Fortune and next week is a Gaither Gospel music DVD.

Valentines Day Tree

Who says you have to take your Christmas Tree down after the Holidays???

We here at MVNRC decided to leave our tree up and do something special with it. First up is Valentine’s Day. Activity staff has made a Valentine for each resident in the facility. Starting Friday, February 12th, staff will take a Valentine off the tree and hand-deliver it to whoever’s name is on it. By Sunday, February 14th all Valentine’s will be handed out and the tree will then be switched over for the next holiday.

We are working on Valentine’s Day craft this week with the residents who chose to and will have pictures up next week of that activity. We are working in one wing a day to make sure to get to everyone who wants to participate. Keep an eye out for those pictures.

Decorating for Christmas

Keeping up the Christmas Cheer

Although it wasn’t a normal Christmas here at MVNRC, the staff, families, as well as a local business’s helped spread some Holiday cheer with different decorations throughout the facility inside and outside. The residents and staff alike enjoyed looking outside each day to see what new decoration was added.  A huge SHOUT OUT to all the people that had a hand in helping with this.

Staff Karen Klotz has been making a Gingerbread House now for many years to share with the residents and staff.  This year she thought it would be great to make a replica of our facility.  It took her many weeks to finish this project.  For a complete story scroll back on our Facebook page to see more pictures and read her story here.

A few more pictures from this Christmas.

Special Memory Tree

This year the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center  (MVNRC) placed a “Special Christmas Tree” our version of a Memory Tree in the Crystal Alcove.   (What is a  memory tree you ask?  This is a place to capture special memories of a loved one by tying a note remembering a loved one to a tree celebrating them.)  We used ornaments to decorate a tree with these special memories.

The memory ornaments were placed on the tree by our staff in memory of our loved ones who passed away throughout the year.

Christmas Crafts

In-room Christmas Crafting

Although we are still not having group activities within the facility, we are doing small individual activities in each resident’s room (as accepted).

Here are some video clips and pictures of residents who participated in a Christmas Craft.  They enjoyed making Christmas Trees and/or snowflakes. It was a fun time as well as good therapy for their fingers.
