Bingo is Back

Activities have started back up in individual wing dining rooms throughout the week following CDC guidelines. We kicked off with our resident’s favorite activity of B-I-N-G-O. Here are some pictures of our first bingo after our group activities were shut down. As you can see, they were very happy to start it back up even with the adaptions we had to make.

Each week we will be holding a different activity and carry that activity throughout the week on each wing.  This week we have been doing Wheel of Fortune and next week is a Gaither Gospel music DVD.

Thank You Bingo Volunteer Teresa Walk

Bingo Volunteer – Teresa Walk

Teresa Walk was part of the original Bingo Volunteer group that was established over 20 years ago. She is the only member that is still able to come in although not on a regular basis anymore.  Along with bringing the prizes for that days Bingo, Teresa works all year long on making little gifts for each resident that attends Bingo that day for all the major Holidays. She also assists residents who need help playing Bingo. Thank you, Teresa, for all the years of dedication to our residents.

Bingo Nights

Bingo Fun

Who doesn’t love yelling Bingo? Well, it’s easy to get into the action. Many communities and senior centers, including churches, offer regular Bingo nights. It’s a great opportunity to get together with other friends for an afternoon or evening out or as a way to meet new people. The Chamber of Commerce can usually help out with information on local Bingo locations, and there are sites online, such as “Bingo Locator,” that can offer other venues. You don’t have to leave home to have Bingo fun, though. You can host a party yourself and have friends of different age groups participate. Joke gifts are readily available and make great, inexpensive prizes and everyone can bring snacks.

P.S. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, community and senior centers usually welcome help with Bingo nights to give the regular callers a chance to play

Penny Bingo

Bingo is one of the HOT activities here at MVNRC…it is held weekly along with either Penny Bingo or Adapted Bingo every other week.  Penny Bingo is held the same way, just using pennies to bid and win. (Pennies provided) Adapted bingo is the same as regular bingo but geared to our residents that may need that extra help and goes at a slower speed, allowing each resident the opportunity to find and cover the number.

We can not thank our Bingo Volunteers enough for all that they do. Assist residents playing, transport, call the winners, and clean up.  We have a great volunteer team to help make our Bingos flow perfectly.

If you are ever visiting during Bingo time, you may hear our residents “jokingly” scolding our caller for not picking the correct numbers, to “shake up the balls” and to get them out of the corners of a round basket, as well as hearing the many phrases she has come up with for some numbers. Our residents even have them memorized and will say them along with her.

If you really want to see something, that’s wonderful. Then you need to see all the smiles and hear the excitement when someone yells “Bingo!”
