OUR 12TH ANNUAL MAHONING VALLEY FAIR
Residents of MVN&RC gathered in the courtyard on a warm, beautiful day for the special events of the Fair, on September 22, 2023. Music was played as residents were escorted into the courtyard, by staff and family members, but was soon drowned out by the laughter and sounds of the gathering crowd.
On September 21st, three resident judges taste-tested the cakes that were entered for the Chocolate Cake Bake-Off by staff and family members and had the tough decision of choosing the top 3 cakes. The winners were announced at the beginning of the Fair by M.C., Nancy, and were called forward to receive their certificate for their winning entry.
The next big event of the Fair was the Pie Eating Contest where 5 staff members competed for the bragging right of being the winner. Cornelia, from the Dietary Department, was declared the winner and is ready to defend her title next year! Within seconds, a free-for-all began among the competitors, as pies were pushed into faces, dumped on top of heads, and a number of pies were thrown thru the air. There was much laughter and cheering among the residents, staff, and guests as they watched the antics of the competitors.
Following the Pie Eating Contest, residents began participating in various midway games and activities. Residents were provided with squirt guns and had a blast squirting anyone who passed by them. Buster the Clown mingled among the crowd making and handing out balloon hats, flowers, and animals which were displayed or worn by those who accepted them. In addition to bean bag and hoop tossing games, there was a dress-up photo booth where residents had their photos taken in a variety of apparel and silly accessories. A big attraction along the midway was the Dunk Tank, where residents tossed balls hoping to hit the target, which in turn would flip Devon into the cool water in the tank, much to everyone’s delight, creating cheers and laughter.
Special treats were available for everyone including homemade Funnel Cake, popcorn, candy cotton, and lemonade.
What a wonderful afternoon of sights, smells, sounds of laughter and music, and reminiscing at the MV Fair!
