How was butter made in the old days?

Today the residents go back in time and make their own butter.

Dietary staff provided all that was needed along with some homemade corn muffins to try on once we were done.

Each resident had a small container of heavy whipping cream and used their muscles to shake until it turned into butter.  Once turned, we were able to have it on a muffin and boy o boy was it tasty.

We reminisced on how they all remembered making it on the farm.  Bertha was quick to come saying, “I will show you how to make real butter.” Lamonte and Isabelle even had to milk their cows first for the cream and used a butter churn to make big batches at a time.

Helena was a little worried about its taste since we didn’t put salt in it, but she was pleasantly surprised. Mary is from Brooklyn and reminded us that she couldn’t have cows on the subway.

Hope you enjoy the pictures of our fun afternoon as much as we did making and eating it.  Thanks to the Dietary staff for the use of their strong arms also to help us.

Name That Tune – Hallway Edition

Live from MVNRC – Name That Tune

Many of us remember the TV show Name That Tune.  It was an American TV Show which started in the ’50s where two contestants would test their knowledge of songs.  First starting on the radio then becoming a TV show that lasted for many years.

The Activities Department took the idea and applied it to a little fun activity the residents of Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  But they added a twist while keeping social distancing guidelines in place by using safe spacing and the hallways to play the game.

Every wing goes to play the game take a look at the videos and pictures that we took during the event.  I think you’ll agree they had fun.

Ugly Sweater Vest or Scrubs Day

What is Ugly Sweater Vest or Scrubs Day?

Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is celebrating Ugly Sweater, Vest or Scrubs day or as “Ugly Sweater Day“.

Which is a day meant to be a light-hearted fun day to be yourself and not the boring corporate version suit and tie version of yourself?  We know how everyone really hates that stuff. So the idea here is to have some fun and leave the corporate stuff at home. Since Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center is in the nursing, rehabilitation and medical care we did it up with our own style.  Take a look at the picture tell us in the comments below what you thought, how did it best?

Independence Day Celebration

Independence Day at Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Everyone remembers the 4th of July with fond memories.  The day gathered with friends and family enjoying Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Ice Cream by day.  Then as the sun begins to set everyone stares with smiles to the skies and the oncoming fireworks to celebrate America.

The residents of Mahoning Valley Nursing And Rehabilitation Center are no exception to this tradition gathered together with family, friends, and the kind staff of MVNRC the residents celebrate the 4th of July much in the same way.

For the celebration staff dressed up in their Red, White, and Blue to bring some Independence Day cheer to our residents. Patriotic music was playing and flowered Lei were handed out to all residents and their families. Many clapped and sang along to the music. Some residents even joined in the parade.  Below are a few pictures to enjoy.
