Aging Drivers Education
Seniors might want to take advantage of a free educational program created by the American Society for Aging.
To better preserve their driving ability, Called CarFit, the program’s 12-point safety check can help older drivers identify any important adjustments they can make to improve their driving. These factors include proper mirror alignment to minimize blind spots, good foot positioning on the pedals to reduce leg-muscle fatigue and improve reaction times, and appropriate steering wheel distance to help minimize the risk of serious injury during accidents. On the basis of CarFit checklist reports, one-quarter of drivers do not have proper line of sight over their steering wheels, while 37% have at least one critical safety issue requiring attention.
P.S. According to recent research, nearly 83 percent of older drivers say they never speak to a family member or doctor about their driving ability.
